Why would a guy say maybe?

If a guy recently said maybe to you then you might be wondering why and what it might mean about the way that he feels about you.

This post will show you a number of reasons why he might have said maybe and why other guys might do the same in the future.

So, why would a guy say maybe? It could be the case that he is not interested in you especially if he does not show signs of attraction around you and he shows distancing body language. He might also be seeing someone else, think that he will be busy at that time or he might just not be interested in what you want to do.

There are actually a number of reasons why a guy might say maybe and there are a number of things that you can consider when trying to figure out why he said it.

Why a guy will say maybe

Each of the different reasons why a guy will say maybe will likely come with a number of clues in the way that he does it and the body language that he shows.

Below, I will mention a number of reasons why a guy will say maybe, the signs to look for and the things to consider.

He is seeing someone else

The reason that he said maybe might have been that he is seeing someone else and he actually is hoping to go out with that person.

This would be more likely if you have seen him around with another girl in the past, if he does show interest in you normally but he will sometimes go cold on you and if he acts differently around you depending on who he is with.

He is not interested

It might be the case that he said maybe because he is not interested in you but he didn’t want to make you feel bad.

In this case, it would be more likely that he would not show signs of attraction around you (mentioned below), he would show similar body language around you like he does with his other friends and he might even show signs of disinterest around you.

The signs could include:

• Avoiding eye contact
• Standing further away from you than he does with other people
• Pointing his feet away from you
• Smiling with a closed mouth and not smiling beside the eyes
• Giving you short answers

He thinks he will be busy

The reason that he said maybe could just be that he thinks that he will be busy when you wanted to go out with him.

If this is the case then he might have mentioned that he thinks he will be busy and he likely would not show signs of disinterest around you. He might also mention another time to go out.

If did say maybe because he will be busy then it could be the case that he is attracted to you. If he is attracted to you then he would likely show some signs of being attracted to you, when he is around you, by doing things such as:

• Holding prolonged eye contact with you
• Asking you the most questions
• Keeping his focus on you when multiple people are talking
• Glancing at you a lot
• Adjusting his appearance when he sees you
• Touching you a lot
• Standing closer to you than he does with other people
• Pointing his feet at you (people often point their feet at people that they are attracted to)
• Watching you and getting anxious when you are around other men
• Getting defensive when other men are with you both
• Having dilated pupils when looking at you (people’s pupils will often become more dilated when looking at someone that they are attracted to)

He isn’t interested in what you want to do

He might have said maybe because he is not interested in the activity that you wanted to do.

If this was the case then he might have suggested doing something else and he might have asked what you wanted to do before he said maybe.

If he did say maybe because he is not interested in what you want to do then it could still be the case that he is attracted to you. If he is then it would be more likely that he would show signs of attraction around you.

With that being said, it would suggest that he is not strongly interested in you since, if he was, then it would be more likely that he would have said yes anyway or that he would have suggested something else.

Consider the way that he reacts to seeing you

When trying to understand why he said maybe and how he feels about you it would help to consider how he reacts upon seeing you.

If he reacts by noticeably changing his body language then it would make it more likely that he has good or bad feelings about you.

If he reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:

• Adjusting his appearance
• Adjusting his posture
• Facing towards you (especially with his feet)
• Holding eye contact with you
• Moving closer to you
• Having more dilated pupils

Then it would make it more likely that he is actually attracted to you and that he said maybe because he would be busy or he didn’t want to do what you suggested.

Whereas, if he reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:

• Squinting
• Facing away from you
• Smiling with a closed mouth
• Tightening his lips
• Distancing himself
• Avoiding eye contact

Then it would make it more likely that he said maybe because he isn’t interested in you.

Consider who else was around when you asked

It would also help to consider the location that he said maybe to you in.

If you asked him out in front of his friends then it could be the case that he didn’t want to be seen saying yes in front of them. This would be more likely if he tends to show more signs of attraction in front of you.

If he said maybe when you were alone together then it would make it more likely that he was rejecting you but he didn’t want to say so. However, it could still be the case that he said it for a different reason so it would help to consider the body language that he was showing.

Consider how he interacts with other people

It would also help to compare the way that he interacts with you with how he interacts with other people.

If he shows the same body language around you as he does around his other friends then it would be more likely that he considers you as a friend.

Whereas, if his body language is different around you then it would make it more likely that he has particularly good or bad feelings about you depending on how he changes his body language.

Consider multiple body language signs

When trying to make sense of what his body language was suggesting it would help to consider multiple signs at the same time.

This is because a single body language sign can have many different meanings. This can cause single body language signs to be unreliable on their own.

Whereas, if someone shows a number of body language signs, that all suggest the same thing, then it would make it more likely that they are showing them for that particular reason.
