If a guy recently complimented your appearance you might be wondering why and what it might mean about the way that he feels about you.

This post will show you a number of reasons why he might have complimented your appearance and why other guys might do the same in the future.

So, what does it mean when a guy compliments your appearance? It could mean he is attracted to you especially if he does it often, he only seems to do it to you and he shows other signs of attraction around you. He might also consider you a friend, be being polite, be trying to make you feel better or he might want something from you.

There are actually a number of reasons why a guy will compliment your appearance and there are a number of things to consider when trying to understand why he did it.

Why a guy would compliment your appearance

Each of the different reasons why a guy will compliment your appearance will likely come with a number of clues in the way that he does it and the body language that he shows.

Below, I will mention a number of reasons why a guy will compliment your appearance, the signs to look for and the things to consider.

He is attracted to you

The reason that he did it could be that he is attracted to you.

This would be more likely if he compliments your appearance often, he only seems to do it to you and if he interacts with you in a different way to how he interacts with his other friends.

If he is attracted to you then it would be likely that he would show some signs of being attracted to you such as:

• Keeping his focus on you when multiple people are talking
• Pointing his feet at you (people often point their feet at people that they are attracted to)
• Adjusting his appearance when he sees you
• Asking you the most questions when in a group with you
• Touching you a lot
• Looking in your direction a lot and smiling or quickly looking away when you notice
• Holding prolonged eye contact with you
• Talking to you with a deeper voice than he does with other people
• Standing closer to you than he does with other people
• Watching you and getting anxious when you are around other men
• Getting defensive when other men are with you both

He is being polite

It could be that he was just being polite.

This would be more likely if he did it in a more formal setting, if you were dressed up more than you usually would be or if he was meeting you for the first time or the first time in a while.

He considers you a friend

He might also have complimented your appearance even if he considers you a friend.

It would be more likely that he considers you a friend if he also seems to compliment his other friends in a similar way and if he shows the same body language around his friends as he does with you.

He is trying to make you feel better

He might have done it because he thought that you were feeling sad at the time.

This would be more likely if you were talking to him about something that made you sad, you were showing signs of being sad or if something had just happened that could have made you feel sad.

He wants something from you

Sometimes, a guy might compliment a girl’s appearance when he wants something from her.

It would be more likely that he did it with you if he also asked for something from you shortly after, if he only seems to compliment you when he needs things from you or if he stopped showing signs of interest shortly after he asked for something from you.

Consider how he reacts to seeing you

When trying to understand why he might have complimented your appearance and how he feels about you it would help to consider the way that he reacts upon seeing you.

If he reacts by noticeably changing his body language then it would be more likely that he has particularly good feelings about you.

So, if he reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:

• Adjusting his appearance
• Adjusting his posture
• Facing towards you (especially with his feet)
• Moving closer to you
• Having more dilated pupils

Then it would make it more likely that he did it because he is attracted to you.

Consider when and where he complimented your appearance

The timing that he complimented your appearance in could also be something to consider.

Unless it was at a party, if he complimented your appearance when you were around other people then it would make it more likely that he was being polite or doing it as a friend. He could still have been showing attraction to you so it would help to consider the body language he shows around you and how he reacts upon seeing you.

If he did it when you were both alone together then it would make it more likely that he was either trying to make you feel better or that he was showing attraction to you.

Consider how he interacts with other people

It would also help to compare the way that he interacts with you with how he interacts with other people.

If he shows the same body language with you as he does with other people then it would make it more likely that he considers you a friend.

Whereas, if he changes his body language, when he is interacting with you, then it would make it more likely that he has particularly good or bad feelings about you depending on how he changes it.

Consider multiple body language signs

When considering what his body language could be showing it would help to consider multiple signs at the same time.

This is because a single body language sign will often have a number of different possible meanings. This can make single body language signs less reliable on their own.

Whereas, if he shows multiple body language signs, that all suggest the same thing, then it would make it more likely that he is showing them for that reason.
