If a girl with a boyfriend recently said “I love you” then you’re probably wondering why and what it might mean about the way that she feels about you.
This post will help you understand why she might have said that she loves you and why other girls might do it as well in the future.
So, what does it mean when a girl with a boyfriend says “I love you”? It would depend largely on the way she says it and the context. If she only says it to you and she shows signs of attraction around you then it would be likely that she’s attracted to you. If she also says it to her other friend’s then it would likely be a natural thing that she says.
Since there are a number of reasons why she might have said that she loves you it is important to consider the context and the body language that she showed.
Why a girl with a boyfriend will say “I love you”
Each of the different reasons why she said that she loves you will likely come with a number of clues in her body language and in the way that she said it.
In the following sections, I’ll show you a number of reasons why she might have said it, the signs to look for and the considerations to make.
She is attracted to you
The reason that she said that she loves you could be that she was showing that she likes you.
This would be more likely if she said it with more emphasis behind it, when she was alone with you, if she doesn’t say it to other people that isn’t her boyfriend and if she shows positive body language around you that she doesn’t show around her other friend’s.
If she did say that she loves you because she is attracted to you then it would be likely that she would show signs of being attracted to you when she is around you.
These signs could include things such as:
- Mirroring your own body language
- Having dilated pupils when looking at you
- Holding prolonged eye contact with you
- Touching you more that she touches other people
- Asking you more questions than she asks to her other friend’s
- Standing closer to you, when talking to you, than she does with other people
- Brushing her hair to the side when she is around you
- Pointing her feet at you when she is around you
- Stroking her hair while talking to you
- Laughing and looking to see if you’re also laughing
- Laughing a lot at the things that you say
- Glancing at you a lot and quickly looking away when you notice
- Adjusting her appearance when she sees you
- Sitting or standing more upright when she sees you
She considers you a close friend
The reason that she said that she loves you could be that she considers you a close friend.
This would be more likely if she has been friends with you for a while, if she also says it to her other close friends and if she shows the same body language around her other close friends as she does with you.
It would also be less likely that she would show many of the signs of attraction mentioned above but she might ask you more questions than she does with other people.
She says it to her friends naturally
It could also be that she says “I love you” to all of her friends naturally. This could be the reason that she said it to you.
This would be more likely if she said it when she was saying goodbye to you and if she also says it to her other friends. It would also be more likely that she would show similar body language around you as she does around her other friends.
She was being grateful
The reason that she said that she loves you could be that she was showing that she was really grateful for something that you did for her.
This would be more likely to have been the reason if she said it after you had done a favor for her or after you had agreed to. It would also be likely that she wouldn’t say it to you at other times as well unless she says it naturally.
Consider your relationship with her
It would be helpful to consider the type of relationship that you have with her when trying to understand why she said that she loves you.
If you have been friends with her for a while then it would be more likely that she said it because she was showing that she considers you a friend. However, she could have been showing that she likes you more than that if she said it with more emphasis, she shows attraction around you and if she doesn’t tend to say it to her other friend’s.
If it was a girl that you don’t know very well then it could be the case that she says it naturally especially if she said it when saying bye to you. She could have been showing attraction to you but it would be necessary to consider the body language that she shows around you and how she interacts with you compared to when she’s with others.
Consider when and where she said she loves you
The timing and location of when she said that she loves you would also be a useful thing to consider.
If she said it when she was alone with you then it would be more likely that she said it due to being attracted to you. However, she might also have said it naturally especially if she said it when you were parting.
Whereas, if she said that she loves you when you were with other people then it would be more likely that she was saying it naturally especially if she said it when saying goodbye.
Think about the way that she reacts to seeing you
It would also be helpful to consider the way that she reacts to seeing you when trying to understand how she feels about you and why she said that she loves you.
If she reacts to seeing you by noticeably changing her body language in a way that suggests attraction then it would make it more likely that she said it due to being attracted to you.
This means that if she reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:
- Adjusting her appearance
- Holding eye contact
- Brushing her hair to the side
- Raising her eyebrows and smiling
- Pointing her feet at you
- Positioning herself to be nearer to you
Then it would make it more likely that she said that she loves you due to being attracted to you.
Look for multiple signs in her body language
When considering what her body language could be suggesting it would be helpful to consider multiple signs at a time.
This is because a single body language sign can have multiple different meanings making it hard to accurately understand why she might have been showing it.
Whereas, if she showed a cluster of body language signs that all suggested the same thing then it would be more likely that she was showing them for that reason.
Think about the way that she interacts with other people
When trying to understand why she said that she loves you it would be helpful to compare the way that she interacts with other people with how she interacts with you.
If she says “I love you” to other people that aren’t her boyfriend as well then it would be more likely that she said it to you because she says it naturally. This would be especially likely if she also shows the same behavior and body language around you as she does around other people.
Whereas, if she only seems to have said it to you and she does show different body language around you compared to when she is with other people then it would be more likely that she is attracted to you.
If you want to learn more about body language, a book I would recommend would be The Definitive Book of Body Language (on Amazon). It shows you how to interpret body language and understand people's true intentions.
