If a guy texts you at night this post will show you likely reasons why and what would make each of them more likely.
So, what does it mean when a guy texts you at night? Likely reasons why a guy will text you at night are that he is attracted to you, he wants to see what you are doing, he is just being friendly or that he is jealous.
There are actually a number of possible reasons why a guy might text you at night and it could be due to a combination of reasons.
What does it mean when a guy texts you at night?
Below are likely reasons why a guy will do it and what would make them more likely.
He is attracted to you
The cause could be that he is attracted to you. This would be more likely if he also does things such as text you sexual things, ask if you are seeing anyone, text you often and respond to your texts quickly.
If he did text you at night because he is attracted to you, it would be likely that he would show signs of being attracted to you in his body language and behavior when he’s with you in person.
These signs can include:
- Holding prolonged eye contact with you
- His pupils become dilated when he is around you
- Getting anxious when you are with other men your age
- Watching you while you are with other men your age
- Sticking around while you are with other men your age
- Sitting or standing with a more upright posture when he sees you
- Touching your feet with his
- Pointing his feet at you
- Looking at your lips
- Uncrossing his arms when he sees you
- Adjusting his hair or clothing when he sees you
- Blinking more frequently
- Asking you the most questions when in a group together
- Keeping his focus on you when you and multiple other people are talking
- Asking your friends about you
- Getting defensive when other men are with you both
- Basing his schedule around your schedule
- Standing closer to you than he does to other people when talking to you
- Touching you a lot and finding excuses to touch you
- Mirroring your own body language (for example, he imitates your smile, your laugh, your facial gestures, the way you stand or your hand gestures)
He wants to see what you are doing
Another possible reason is that he wants to see what you are doing possibly because he is jealous. This would be more likely if he knows that you were meant to be hanging out with other people during the night. This would be more likely if he often wants to know what you are doing and if he gets jealous when you are around other men in person.
He is just being friendly
It could also be the case that he was just being friendly. This would be more likely if he said it after you have already started messaging him. It would also be more likely if he also shows similar body language with you as he does with his other friends in person.
It is when he has the most time
A less likely reason is that he just happens to have more time available at night. This would be more likely if you know that he does not have much time to message you during the day.
Consider what he texts you
When trying to understand how he feels about you it would be helpful to consider the type of things that he texts you.
If he often texts you things that could be considered as sexual or things that are related to you sexually such as questions about your boyfriend or the type of guy that you like, it would be more likely that he is attracted to you. It would also be more likely that he is attracted to you if he is often trying to organize meeting up with you when texting you.
If he doesn’t text you any of those things and his conversations with you tend to be non-sexual in nature, it would be more likely that he is either looking for validation socially, that he texts you when he’s bored or that he enjoys talking to you.
However, he still might be attracted to you but too nervous to show it in his conversations with you so you should consider if he gets nervous around you and if he shows signs of being attracted to you in his body language around you.
Consider who texts who first
It would also be helpful to consider who tends to text who first.
If he is the one that tends to start the conversation with you, it would be likely that he is attracted to you and you should consider what he texts you and how he interacts with you in person.
Whereas, if you are usually the one to text him first, it would be less likely that he is attracted to you. However, it could still be the case that he is normally busy.
If you both tend to text first an equal amount of time, it would be necessary for you to consider what he texts you, if he tries to organize meeting up with you and if he shows attraction when you are with him.
Consider how quickly he texts you
Another useful thing to think about is how quickly he responds to your texts. I have written in-depth about what it means when a guy responds quickly to your texts in the past here.
However, if he tends to respond to your texts quickly, it would be more likely that he is attracted to you and that he is glad that you texted him. If he shows signs of being attracted to you when he is around you and if he texts you sexual type things, it would be very likely that he is attracted to you.
If he doesn’t tend to text you quickly then it would be less likely that he is attracted to you. However, it might be the case that he does it on purpose to get you to think about him more so you should consider if he shows attraction in his interactions with you and if he tries to meet up with you in his texts.
Think about how he reacts to seeing you
It would also help to consider how he reacts when he first sees you.
The way that he reacts to seeing you is useful to think about because if he changes his body language noticeably, it would be likely that he has good or bad feelings about you depending on how he changes it.
If he reacts to seeing you by:
- Sitting or standing more upright
- Uncrossing his arms and legs
- Adjusting his hair or clothing
- Raising his eyebrows
- Holding eye contact
- Making space for you
- Pointing his feet at you
- Positioning himself to be near you
- His pupils dilate
Then it would be much more likely that he texts you at night because he is attracted to you.
Whereas, if he reacts to seeing you by
- Crossing his arms
- Squinting at you
- Tightening his eyebrows
- Tensing his jaw
- Pointing his feet away from you
- Avoiding eye contact with you
Then it would be more likely that he has negative feelings towards you. However, if he texts you often, it would be less likely that he would show these signs.
Think about his interactions with you compared to when he is with other people
It would also help to compare the way he interacts with you with how he interacts with other people.
If he seems to text other people a lot at night and he shows the same body language around you as he does around his other friends, it would be less likely that he is attracted to you and more likely that he does it for validation or that he likes you as a friend.
Whereas, if he only texts you often and he changes his body language when he is around you compared to when he’s with other people, it would be more likely that he is attracted to you assuming that he shows signs of it in his body language.
Consider multiple aspects of his body language
When trying to understand what his body language is suggesting it is important to look for clusters of body language signs.
This means that you should look for multiple signs that all suggest the same thing.
It’s important to do that because he might show a single body language sign for a number of different reasons. This would make it more difficult to make an accurate conclusion on why he is showing it.
Whereas, he would be more likely to show multiple body language signs that suggest the same thing for that exact reason.
If you want to learn more about body language, a book I would recommend would be The Definitive Book of Body Language (on Amazon). It shows you how to interpret body language and understand people's true intentions.
