If a guy recently said that you are not his type, this post will show you a number of possible reasons why and what would make each of them more likely.

So, what does it mean when a guy says that you are not his type? Likely reasons why a guy will say that you are not his type are that he is not interested in you, he is doing it on purpose to make you think about him more or that he is annoyed with you.

There are a number of possible reasons why a guy will say that you are not his type but there are some things you can consider to help figure out the main reason.

What does it mean when a guy says you are not his type?

Below are a number of possible reasons why a guy will say that you are not his type and what would make them more likely.

He is not interested in you

The reason why he said it might be that he is not interested in you and that he is trying to let you know that he is not interested in you. This would be more likely if he said it when you were showing interest in him and if he tends to show distancing body language around you.

Body language signs he might show could include:

  • Squinting
  • Only smiling at the mouth
  • Facing away from you
  • Distancing himself from you
  • Avoiding eye contact
  • Not asking you any questions

He is doing it on purpose

It could also be the case that he is interested in you but he said that you are not his type in order to get you to think about him more and to seek his validation.

In this case, it would still be likely that he would show some signs of interest in his body language by doing things such as:

  • Pupil dilation when talking to you
  • Pointing his feet towards you
  • Talking to you more than others
  • Asking your friends about you
  • Maintaining a longer duration of eye contact
  • Touching you often
  • Mirroring your body language and behavior
  • Standing at a closer proximity to you
  • Giving lots of glances your way
  • Speaking with a deeper voice than normal around you
  • Getting anxious when you’re with other men

He is annoyed with you

It might also be the case that he said it because he was annoyed with you. This would be more likely if he said it right after you said something that might have annoyed him such as if he said it after you showed a lack of interest in him yourself.

Things to consider

Below are some things to consider to help figure out the main cause.

How he reacts when he sees you

It would help to consider the way that he reacts when he first sees you since it will often tell you a lot about the way someone feels about you.

If he reacts to seeing you by noticeably changing his body language, it would be more likely that he has particularly good or bad feelings about you.

If he reacts by doing things such as:

  • Adjust his appearance
  • Hold eye contact with you
  • Move closer to you
  • Adjust his posture
  • Face towards you (especially with his feet)

It would be more likely that he does actually have some interest in you.

Whereas, if he does things such as:

  • Squinting
  • Only smiling at the mouth
  • Facing away from you
  • Distancing himself from you
  • Avoiding eye contact

It would be more likely that he is not interested or that he is annoyed with you.

How he interacts with other people

It would also help to compare how he interacts with other people with how he interacts with you. If he shows similar body language and behavior with you as he does with other people, it would be more likely that he considers you as a friend. Whereas, if he noticeably changes his behavior around you, it would be more likely that he has good or bad feelings about you.

Multiple signs

When considering what his body language might be showing, it would help to consider multiple signs at the same time. The reason for this is that a single body language sign can be unreliable. Whereas, multiple body language signs all suggesting the same thing would be much more reliable.

If you want to learn more about body language, a book I would recommend would be The Definitive Book of Body Language (on Amazon). It shows you how to interpret body language and understand people's true intentions.
