What does it mean when a guy says that he misses you?

Below are likely reasons why he said it and what would make them more likely.

He was attracted to you

The reason could be that he was and still is attracted to you and he wants to see you as a result. This would be more likely if he has been trying to flirt with you when messaging you and if he tries to contact you often.

It would also be likely that he would of shown signs of attraction, in his body language, when he was around you in person such as:

  • Holding prolonged eye contact with you
  • His pupils become dilated when he is around you
  • Standing close to you when talking to you
  • Mirroring your body language
  • Talking to you with a deeper voice than he does with other people
  • Uncrossing his arms and legs when he sees you
  • Sitting up straight when he sees you
  • Making his hair or clothing look good when he sees you
  • Becoming agitated while you are talking to other men your age
  • Getting defensive while other men are around
  • Making plans based on your schedule
  • Keeping his focus on you when you’re in a group together
  • Asking you lots of questions even when you’re both in a group together

He wants to date you again

If you were previously dating, it could also be a sign that he wants to date you again. This would be more likely if he started messaging you out of the blue and if he has also been asking you things such as where you are living now and if you are seeing anyone.

He is just being nice

Another cause could be that he was simply trying to be nice. This would be more likely if he said it when you were texting him about something sad or if he said it when saying goodbye. It would also be more likely if he has not been asking you things such as if you are dating anyone.

He considered you a good friend

Another possible cause could be that he considered you as a good friend and that he misses you as a result. This would be more likely if he used to show similar body language around you as he did around his other friends.

Things to consider

Below are some things you can consider to help figure out the main cause.

The context of how he said that he misses you

It would help to consider the context of how he said that he misses you. If he said it when you were talking about something that made you sad, it could be the case that he was trying to be nice. Whereas, if he starting messaging you suddenly and he asked things such as if you are seeing someone, it would be a lot more likely that he wants to date you.

How he used to behave around you in person

It would also help to consider the body language he used to show you in person. If he used to show lots of signs of attraction such as standing closest to you and touching you the most, it would be more likely that he misses you because he was attracted to you. Whereas, if he used to behave the same way around you as he did with his friends, it would be more likely that he misses you as a friend.

If you want to learn more about body language, a book I would recommend would be The Definitive Book of Body Language (on Amazon). It shows you how to interpret body language and understand people's true intentions.
