If a guy repeats what you say then you might be wondering why and what it might mean about the way that he feels about you.

This post will show you a number of reasons why he might repeat what you say and why other guys might do the same in the future.

So, what does it mean when a guy repeats what you say? It could be a sign that he likes you if he only does it to you and he shows signs of attraction around you. He might also not be able to hear you very well, do it naturally, be teasing you and sometimes people will repeat other people when they are annoyed with them.

There are actually a number of reasons why a guy might repeat what you say and there are a number of things that you can consider when trying to figure out why he might be doing it.

Why a guy will repeat what you say

Each of the different reasons why he repeats what you say will likely come with a number of clues in the way that he does it and the body language that he shows.

Below, I will mention a number of reasons why a guy will repeat what you say, the signs to look for and the things to consider.

He is attracted to you

The reason that he does it might be that he is attracted to you.

This would be more likely if he repeats what you say a lot, he does it subconsciously, he does it with a normal tone and he is a similar age to you.

If he is attracted to you then it would be likely that he would show signs of attraction when he is around you.

These signs could include:

  • Holding prolonged eye contact with you
  • Asking you the most questions
  • Keeping his focus on you when multiple people are talking
  • Glancing at you a lot
  • Adjusting his appearance when he sees you
  • Touching you a lot
  • Standing closer to you than he does with other people
  • Pointing his feet at you (people often point their feet at people that they are attracted to)
  • Watching you and getting anxious when you are around other men
  • Getting defensive when other men are with you both
  • Having dilated pupils when looking at you (people’s pupils will often become more dilated when looking at someone that they are attracted to)

There are more signs of attraction that a guy might show around you and I have written about more of them in this blog post.

He does it naturally

It could also be the case that he has a habit of repeating the things that people say.

This would be more likely if he also seems to repeat what other people say a lot and if he shows similar body language around them as he does with you.

If he does seem to do it naturally then it could still be the case that he is attracted to you. If he is then it would be more likely that he would show signs of attraction when he is around you.

He is teasing you

Sometimes people will repeat the things that other people say when they are teasing them or mocking them.

If he was teasing you then it would be more likely that he would have repeated what you said once and that he would have done it with a higher or lower-pitched voice than he normally has.

He can’t hear you

It could also be the case that he was doing it because he couldn’t hear you very well and he wanted to make sure that he understood you correctly.

This would be more likely if he was doing it in a noisy environment or if he has hearing problems. It would also be more likely if he was also repeating what other people were saying, at the time, as well.

He is annoyed with you

Sometimes people will repeat what other people say when they are annoyed with them.

If he was repeating what you said because he was annoyed with you then it would be more likely that he would have repeated something that might have offended him.

It would also be more likely that he would have shown some signs of being annoyed with you by doing things such as:

  • Squinting
  • Smiling only at the mouth
  • Avoiding eye contact
  • Facing away from you
  • Standing further away from you than he usually does
  • Having tight lips around you

Consider how he reacts to seeing you

When trying to understand why he was repeating what you were saying and how he feels about you it would help to consider the way that he reacts to seeing you.

If he changes his body language, noticeably, upon seeing you then it would make it more likely that he has good or bad feelings about you.

If he reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:

  • Adjusting his appearance
  • Adjusting his posture
  • Facing towards you (especially with his feet)
  • Holding eye contact with you
  • Moving closer to you

Then it would make it more likely that he was doing it because he was showing attraction to you.

Whereas, if he reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:

  • Squinting
  • Facing away from you
  • Smiling with a closed mouth
  • Tightening his lips
  • Distancing himself
  • Avoiding eye contact

Then it would make it more likely that he was doing it because he was annoyed with you or he didn’t like something that you said.

Consider how he interacts with other people

It would also help to compare the way that he interacts with other people with how he interacts with you.

If he also repeats what other people say and he shows the same body language around them as he does with you then it would make it more likely that he does it naturally.

Whereas, if he only seems to repeat what you say and he shows signs of attraction around you that he doesn’t with other people then it would increase the chances that he is attracted to you.

Consider when and where he repeated what you said

When trying to understand why he repeats what you say it would be helpful to consider when and where he does it.

If he only repeats what you say when you’re in a loud environment or when you’re hard to hear then it would be more likely that he does it because he couldn’t understand what you were saying.

If he does it all the time and he does it when he is in a normal mood then it would be more likely that he does it because he likes you, he has bad hearing or he does it naturally. It would help to consider if he only does it with you and how he changes his body language around you.

Consider multiple body language signs

When considering what his body language might have been showing it would help to consider multiple signs at the same time.

The reason for this is that a single body language sign will often have many different possible meanings. This can make single body language signs unreliable on their own.

Whereas, if he shows a cluster of body language signs, that all suggest the same thing then it would make it more likely that he is showing them for that reason.

If you want to learn more about body language, a book I would recommend would be The Definitive Book of Body Language (on Amazon). It shows you how to interpret body language and understand people's true intentions.
