If a guy recently kissed you on the hand then you’re probably wondering why he did it.

This post will show you why he kissed you on the hand and help you understand why other guys might do it in the future.

So, what does it mean when a guy kisses you on the hand? A guy kissing you on the hand could mean that he is attracted to you especially if he does it multiple times and only with you. It might also be that he is trying to reassure you, trying to be romantic, he might do it as a power-play or to show that he cares about you.

Since there are a number of reasons why a guy will kiss your hand it is important to consider the body language signals that he showed and the context of how he did it.

By doing so you’ll be able to get a better understanding of why he did it.

Reasons why a guy will kiss you on the hand

Each of the different reasons why a guy will kiss you on the hand will likely come with a number of different clues in his body language.

Below, I will mention a number of reasons why a guy will kiss your hand and the body language signals to expect to see with them.

He likes you

If he only kissed your hand, he changes his body language and behavior when he is around you and you weren’t sad at the time then it would be likely that he was showing attraction to you.

If it is the case that he is attracted to you then it would be likely that he would show signs of attraction when he is around you in his behavior and body language.

These signs can include:

  • Mirroring your body language
  • Having more dilated pupils than usual when he is with you
  • Pointing his feet at you when you’re around
  • Standing in your personal space when talking to you
  • Asking you lots of questions
  • Asking your friends about you
  • Uncrossing his arms and legs when he sees you
  • Keeping his attention on you when you’re in a group
  • Making adjustments to his clothing or hair when he notices you
  • Holding prolonged eye contact with you
  • Being agitated when you’re talking to other men

He wants to be more than just friends

If he is your friend then it would be likely that he kissed your hand because he wants to be more than just friends with you.

If that is why he kissed your hand then he probably would show signs of attraction in his behavior and body language when he is around you that you might not have noticed.

It would be especially likely that he would become agitated when you are with other men, get defensive or jealous when other men are around and that he would make plans that are based around yours.

He was trying to reassure you

If you were sad at the time then he might have kissed your hand as a way to try and reassure you.

If he did then you would probably have been talking to him about something that made you sad and you would probably have shown it in your body language by doing things like having watery eyes, inhaling quickly through the nose and taking deep breaths.

If it is why he kissed your hand then it would be likely that he would only have done it then. It could also be the case that he used it as an excuse to touch you in which case he would likely have shown attraction in his behavior and body language around you.

He was trying to be romantic

Kissing the hand is something men used to do as a way of being romantic.

If he kissed your hand when he was saying hello to you or goodbye then it could be why he did it.

If it is why he did it then it would be likely that he would show signs of being attracted to you in his behavior and body language.

He was showing his love

If he is your boyfriend then he might have kissed your hand as a way to show his love to you.

If that is why he did it then it would be more likely that he would have done it when saying hello or goodbye to you.

He was being dominant

The reason that he kissed your hand might be that he did it as a sort of power-play.

If that is why he did it then it would be likely that he would have done it in front of other people, that he isn’t a friend of yours and that he would have done it while holding your hand slightly more firmly.

If he did do it for that reason then it would be likely that he would show other signs of being dominant in his behavior and body language by doing things such as:

  • Telling the people around him to do things
  • Putting his hands and feet on things that are not his
  • Touching the people around him
  • Standing in peoples personal space
  • Standing in a way that makes his body appear larger
  • Taking up lots of space
  • Staring at people
  • Squinting when looking at people
  • Talking with a deeper voice
  • Talking over people
  • Interrupting people

Consider your relationship with him

When trying to understand why he kissed your hand it would be helpful to consider the type of relationship that you have with him.

If he is your friend then it would be more likely that he was showing that he wants to be more than just friends with you and/or he was trying to reassure you.

If it was a guy that you were meeting for the first time or a guy that you don’t know very well then it would be more likely that he was showing dominant behavior and attraction to you.

Consider when and where he did it

The timing and the location that he kissed your hand in would also likely be a useful thing to consider.

If he kissed your hand when you were both alone together then it would be likely that he was showing attraction to you.

If he did it in front of other people then it would be more likely that he was doing it as a power-play. He might also have been showing attraction to you in which case he would likely show signs of attraction and domination in his body language.

Consider the way that he reacts to seeing you

The way that he initially reacts to seeing you will also likely tell you a lot about the way that he feels about you.

If he reacts by uncrossing his arms, sitting with a more upright posture, mirroring your body language, holding prolonged eye contact with you, pointing his feet at you and adjusting his clothing or hair then it would be likely that he likes you.

If he crosses his arms, avoids eye contact with you, points the feet away from you, squints and tightens his lips then it would be signaling that he doesn’t want to see you.

Look for multiple signs in his body language

When observing his body language make sure to look for multiple body language signals that all point towards the same thing.

There are often many different reasons that someone will show a single body language signal. This can make it hard to make an accurate conclusion based on a single body language signal.

Whereas, if he shows multiple body language signals that can mean the same thing then it would be much more likely that he is showing them for that particular reason.

Consider the way that he interacts with other people

Comparing the way that he interacts with you with the way that he interacts with other people would also likely be a useful thing to do.

If you notice that he shows the same body language and behavior around other people as he does around you then it would be more likely that he kissed your hand due to dominating behavior assuming that he shows signs of being dominant in the way that he acts.

Whereas, if he only did it to you and he changes his behavior and body language when you are around then it would be much more likely that he is attracted to you.
