If a guy recently called you hun then you’re probably wondering why and what it might have meant.

This post will help you understand why he called you hun and help you understand why other men might call you hun in the future.

So, what does it mean when a guy calls you hun? A guy calling you hun might mean that he likes you if he only says it to you and he shows other signs of attraction around you. He could also say it naturally or be being condescending.

Since there are a number of reasons why a guy will call you hun it is important to consider the context of how he said it and the body language that he showed.

By doing so you will be able to have a better understanding of why he called you hun.

Reasons why a guy will call you hun

Each of the different reasons why a guy will call you hun will likely come with a number of clues in his body language and behavior.

Below, I will show you a number of reasons why a guy will call you hun and the body language signs that you could expect to see with them.

He likes you

If he only calls you hun and he positively changes his body language and behavior when he is around you then it could be a sign that he is attracted to you.

Since hun is a way that many guys will normally refer to women it is not a strong sign of attraction by itself. But, if he only says it to you and he behaves differently around you then it could be.

If he does call you hun because he likes you then it would be likely that he would show signs of being attracted to you in his body language and behavior.

These signs can include:

  • Standing closer to you than he does with other people when talking to you
  • Maintaining prolonged eye contact with you
  • His pupils dilate when he sees you
  • He always points his feet at you when you’re around
  • Keeping his focus on you when there are a number of people talking
  • Asking you lots of questions when you’re in a group
  • Getting anxious while you’re talking to other men, watching you when you are and sticking around when you are talking to other men
  • Adjusting his hair or clothes when he sees you
  • Sitting upright when he sees you
  • Uncrossing his arms and legs when he sees you
  • Talking to you with a deeper voice than he normally does
  • Asking your friends about you
  • Basing his plans around your plans

He feels comfortable around you

It might be the case that he refers to his female friends as hun.

If he feels comfortable around you then it might be why he calls you hun.

If it is then it would be likely that you would notice him saying it to his other female friends and that he would show the same body language around them as he does around you.

He naturally says it to women

Hun is a word that a number of men will call women when they are talking to them.

If you notice that he calls all women hun then it could be the case that he naturally says it to every woman.

Even if that is the case, he still might say it to you for a different reason. If he does then it would be likely that he would show different body language signs around you than he does around other people.

He was being condescending

If he called you hun after you made a suggestion, he said it in a sarcastic way or if he said it when disagreeing with you then he might have said it in a condescending way.

If he did then it would be likely that he would have been showing other negative body language signs which could include:

  • Smirking at you
  • Having tight lips when you’re talking
  • Crossing the arms when you’re talking
  • Squinting at you
  • Not taking what you have to say seriously

He wants to be more than just friends

If he is your friend then it could be the case that calling you hun is his way of showing that he wants to be more than just friends.

If it is then it would be likely that he would show signs of nervousness around you since he hasn’t overtly told you that he likes you yet.

These signs could include:

  • Blinking more frequently around you
  • Rubbing the arms, face, eyes and neck a lot
  • Fidgeting around you
  • Struggling to hold eye contact
  • Speaking with an upwards inflection

It would also be likely that he would show signs of attraction in his body language when he is with you.

If he called you hun because he wants to be more than just friends it would be especially likely that he would get agitated when you’re with other men, get defensive when other men are with you both and that he would make plans based on your plans.

Consider your relationship with him

When trying to figure out why he called you hun it would be helpful to consider your relationship with him.

If he is your friend then it would be more likely that he says it because he feels comfortable around you but he might also want to be more than just friends. It would be helpful to consider if he calls other women hun as well to get a better understanding.

If he is a guy that you don’t know very well then it would be more likely that he says it because he naturally says it to women or he might have been being condescending.

Think about how he behaves with other people

It would also be helpful to consider the way that he interacts with other people and how it is different to how he interacts with you.

If he calls other women hun and he shows the same body language and behavior around them as he does around you then it would be more likely that he naturally calls women hun.

Whereas, if he only calls you hun and he changes his body language and behavior around you then it would be more likely that he is attracted to you assuming that he shows it in other ways as well.

Think about how he reacts to seeing you

It would also be helpful to consider the way that he reacts to seeing you when trying to understand why he called you hun.

If he reacts to seeing you by uncrossing his arms, sitting upright, his pupils dilate, he holds eye contact with wide-open eyes, he makes space for you, he points his feet at you and he adjusts his clothing or hair then it would be more likely that he called you hun since he likes you.

Whereas, if he reacts by crossing his arms and legs, looking away from you, pointing his feet away from you, tightening his lips and squinting at you then it would be a negative sign and likely that he was being condescending.

Consider when and where he called you hun

The timing and location of when he called you hun would also be a useful thing to consider.

If he said it when you were both alone together and he was showing other signs of being attracted to you then it would be more likely that he called you hun because he likes you.

If he called you hun in front of other people then it could be that he naturally calls women hun or that he was being condescending. It would be necessary to consider the tone of how he said it and the body language that he showed to get a better idea.

Look for a number of signs

When observing his body language make sure to look for a number of different signs that all suggest the same thing.

A single body language sign can have multiple different meanings making it hard to draw an accurate conclusion based on a single body language signal.

Whereas, if he shows multiple signs of a certain thing in his body language then it would be much more likely that he is showing them for that particular reason.

If you want to learn more about body language, a book I would recommend would be The Definitive Book of Body Language (on Amazon). It shows you how to interpret body language and understand people's true intentions.
