If a girl recently stared at you when you were walking past her then you might be wondering why and what it means about the way that she feels about you.

This post will help you understand why she might have done it and why other girls might stare at you when walking past you as well.

So, what does it mean when a girl stares at you when walking by? If she shows positive body language as well then it would be a sign that she is attracted to you. It might also be that she thinks you’re staring at her, she is trying to be intimidating, she feels threatened or that she is annoyed with you.

Since there are a number of reasons why a girl might stare at you when walking past you it is important to consider the body language that she shows and the context of how it happens.

Why a girl will stare at you when walking past you

Each of the different reasons why she might have stared at you when walking by would likely come with a number of clues in the way that she did it and the body language that she showed.

Below, I will mention a number of reasons why a girl will stare at you when walking past you, the signs to look for and the things to consider.

She is attracted to you

The reason that she stared at you when walking by could have been that she was attracted to you.

This would be more likely if she was showing positive body language signs when she did it.

It can be difficult to tell whether or not she was attracted to you based solely on the time period that she was walking past you.

However, if she was attracted to you then there are some other things that she might have that would also have shown attraction.

These things could have included:

  • Smiling at you
  • Brushing her hair to the side when looking at you
  • Walking closer to you
  • Having wide-open eyes when looking at you
  • A lack of negative signs such as squinting, tensing the jaw or tightening the eyebrows
  • Having dilated pupils when looking at you
  • Adjusting her appearance
  • Quickly looking away or smiling when you noticed her looking at you

If you see her at other times or you know her then I have written about other signs that you can expect to see if she is attracted to you here.

She felt self-conscious

The reason that she was staring at you could be that she was feeling slightly self-conscious.

The reason that she was feeling that way could have been that she thought that you were staring at her.

If that was the case then she might have shown some signs of feeling anxious in her body language by doing things such as:

  • Rubbing the face, arms, or neck
  • Touching the front of the neck
  • Self-hugging
  • Distancing herself from you
  • Quickly looking away when you looked at her
  • Walking faster

She felt threatened

It could also be the case that she felt threatened in some way.

This would be more likely if you were showing negative signs in your own body language by doing things such as squinting, tensing your jaw, tightening your eyebrows together, clenching the fists or tightening the lips. It would also have been more likely to have been the reason if she was walking past you alone in a more secluded area.

She was annoyed with you

If you know her then the reason that she was staring at you could have been that she was annoyed with you.

This would be more likely if you have recently argued with her, done something that she didn’t like or if she thought that you did something that she didn’t like.

If she was annoyed with you then she might also have shown it by doing things such as:

  • Squinting at you
  • Tensing the jaw when looking at you
  • Tightening her lips
  • Distancing herself from you
  • Crossing her arms
  • Furrowing her eyebrows

Consider how well you knew her

The possible reasons that she might have been staring at you would likely be impacted by how well you knew her.

If she was a girl that you hadn’t spoken to before then it would be more likely that she was either showing attraction, feeling self-conscious, feeling threatened or she might not actually have been staring at you. It would be helpful to consider the body language that she was showing to get a better idea of why she did it.

Whereas, if she was a girl that you knew then it would be more likely that she was either showing attraction to you, annoyed with you or she might even have been thinking about saying hello.

Consider how she reacts upon seeing you

If you see her often then it would be helpful to consider the way that she reacts to seeing you.

If she reacts to seeing you by changing her body language then it would be more likely that she has good or bad feelings towards you.

If she reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:

  • Smiling and raising her eyebrows
  • Brushing her hair to the side
  • Pointing her feet at you
  • Positioning herself to be nearer to you
  • Sitting or standing more upright

Then it would be more likely that she was staring at you due to being attracted to you.

Whereas, if she reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:

  • Squinting
  • Crossing her arms
  • Tensing her jaw
  • Tightening her lips
  • Furrowing her eyebrows

Then it would be more likely that she either is annoyed with you or she doesn’t like you for some reason.

Consider a cluster of body language signs

When considering the body language that she was showing it would be helpful to consider multiple body language signs at the same time.

The reason for that is that single body language signs can have multiple different meanings making them unreliable by themselves.

Whereas, if she was showing multiple body language signs that all suggested the same thing then it would be more likely that she was showing them for that reason.

Why would a girl keep walking past me? If she also shows positive body language then it would be a sign that she is attracted to you. It could also be the case that her schedule causes her to walk past you a lot by chance.
