If a certain guy always seems to make eye contact with you then you might be wondering why and what it might mean about the way that he feels about you.

This post will show you a number of reasons why he might always make eye contact with you and why other guys might do the same in the future.

So, what does it mean when a guy always makes eye contact with you? It would often be a sign that he is attracted to you especially if he only does it to you and he shows other signs of attraction. He might also do it naturally, think that you are looking at him or he might do it as a power-play.

There are actually a number of reasons why a guy might always make eye contact with you and there are a number of things that you can consider when trying to understand the exact reason.

Why a guy will always make eye contact with you

Each of the different reasons why a guy will always make eye contact with you will likely come with a number of clues in the way that he does it and the body language he shows.

Below, I will mention a number of reasons why a guy will always make eye contact with you, the signs to look for and the things to consider.

He is attracted to you

The reason that he always makes eye contact with you could be that he is attracted to you. This is because couples will begin to engage in “mutual gazing” which is where they hold prolonged eye contact with each other when they are beginning to develop feelings for each other. It could be that he always makes eye contact with you because he is actually gazing at you.

This would be more likely if he only seems to do it with you, he holds prolonged eye contact with you and if he seems to show different body language around you than he does with other people.

It would also be more likely if his pupils become more dilated when looking at you. This is because people’s pupils will dilate more when looking at someone that they are attracted to due to the release of oxytocin.

If he does do it because he is attracted to you then it would be likely that he would show other signs of being attracted to you, when he is around you, by doing things such as:

  • Keeping his focus on you when multiple people are talking
  • Pointing his feet at you (people often point their feet at people that they are attracted to)
  • Adjusting his appearance when he sees you
  • Asking you the most questions when in a group with you
  • Touching you a lot
  • Holding prolonged eye contact with you
  • Looking in your direction a lot and smiling or quickly looking away when you notice
  • Talking to you with a deeper voice than he does with other people
  • Standing closer to you than he does with other people
  • Watching you and getting anxious when you are around other men
  • Getting defensive when other men are with you both

There are more signs of attraction that a guy might show around you and I have written about more of them in this blog post.

He does it naturally

It could be the case that he has a habit of looking at people and making eye contact with people a lot.

This would be more likely if he also seems to do it with other people a lot as well and if he seems to show similar body language around other people as with you.

If he does seem to do it naturally then it could still be the case that he is attracted to you. If he does then he would likely show some signs of attraction around you that you haven’t picked up on yet.

He does it as a power-play

Often, when a person is trying to exert their status he/she will hold prolonged eye contact with people around them. It could be the case that he always makes eye contact with you because he does it as a power-play.

This would be more likely if he holds prolonged eye contact with you, he does it when you are both around other people, he does it when telling you to do things and if he also seems to do it to other people as well.

If he does do it as a power-play then he might do other things such as:

  • Putting his hands and feet on things that are not his
  • Telling other people to do things a lot
  • Interrupting people
  • Standing in people’s personal space
  • Squinting when making eye contact with you
  • Tensing his lips
  • Touching people a lot

He thinks that you are looking at him

It might be the case that he makes eye contact with you a lot because he thinks that you are looking at him.

This would be more likely if he has caught you looking at him in the past and if he only seems to make eye contact with you when you are looking at him.

If he does do it because he thinks that you are looking at him then he might show signs of being slightly anxious by doing things such as:

  • Fidgeting
  • Rubbing his face, arms, neck or legs a lot
  • Getting a dry mouth a lot
  • Tapping his fingers and feet a lot

If he does it because he thinks you’re looking at him then it could still be the case that he is attracted to you and it would help to consider the body language he shows around you.

Consider how he reacts upon seeing you

When trying to understand why he always makes eye contact with you and how he feels about you it would help to consider how he reacts upon seeing you.

If he reacts by changing his body language and behavior, in a noticeable way, then it would make it more likely that he has particularly good or bad feelings about you.

If he reacts to seeing you by doing things such as:

  • Adjusting his appearance
  • Adjusting his posture
  • Facing towards you (especially with his feet)
  • Moving closer to you
  • Having more dilated pupils

Then it would make it more likely that he does it because he is attracted to you.

Whereas, if he reacts by doing things such as:

  • Squinting
  • Smiling with a closed mouth
  • Tightening his lips
  • Furrowing his eyebrows

Then it would make it more likely that he has negative feelings about you or he does it as a power-play.

Consider how he interacts with other people

People can show certain body language signs naturally. This means that certain body language signs that would normally mean something might not. That is why it would be helpful to compare the way that he interacts with you with how he interacts with other people.

If he seems to make eye contact with other people a lot and he shows similar body language around other people as with you then it would be more likely that he does it naturally or as a power-play.

Whereas, if he only seems to make eye contact with you a lot and he shows different body language around you then it would make it more likely that he is attracted to you. That is assuming that he changes his body language in a way that shows attraction.

Look for a number of body language clues

When considering what his body language could be showing it would help to consider a number of different signs at the same time.

The reason for this is that a single body language sign can mean a number of different things. This can make single body language signs less reliable on their own.

Whereas, if he shows a number of body language signs that all suggest the same thing then it would make it more likely that he is showing them for that particular reason.

If you want to learn more about body language, a book I would recommend would be The Definitive Book of Body Language (on Amazon). It shows you how to interpret body language and understand people's true intentions.
